Swatchy Swatch

 Watchy the Swatchy

Introduction

At the beginning of this project I knew that you could make your own colors using Adobe softwares, I just did not actually know how to go about doing this; nor did I know that you could manipulate the value of a color after creating it to create different hues. I thought that the only way to create a color with a different hue was to select a lighter version while using the original color selector window.

Creation

Inspiration

With the SGA elections happening in the past week, and having a roommate running for secretary, many of us were focused on the candidates and the items they were giving away. Having a roommate running for office made me very interested in the election, and had me doing campaigning. This pin for Katy Parisi, our SGA president elect, was an important part of my outfits this past week, and I appreciated the colors that were represented here.

Color Selection

I knew I wanted my darkest hues to be fairly dark, however, with the light color scheme of this inspiration picture I had to select colors and make them darker in order to accomplish this. My middle hue of the purple color is from the shirt I was wearing, the darkest hue of my blue color was from the writing on the pin, and the lightest color of my greenish blue color came from the background of the pin.

Major Learnings

Fonts

When creating a pamphlet or other article of reading material it is important to limit the amount of fonts used to make it not only easier to read, but also so that it looks more professional. Using one "fancy" font for all of the headings, in this case my name, and a standard font for all of the body writing, in this case my description, is important to maintain professionalism and legibility (Beachy, 2007). It helps the readers be more engaged and get the most out of your project.

Colors

Like with fonts I also learned that you should limit your colors. While you can have more than two colors only having two to five main colors, just with different values is best for an informational writing such as a pamphlet or poster (Beachy, 2007). In this case I went with three colors and made three values of each one, this keeps the project visually appealing and allows for the colors to not distract from what matters.

Contrast

Contrast is created by using different colors and different values (Beachy, 2007). For the name plates I created I elected to use one color for each one, just utilizing different hues in order to create contrast. It was also important to create more contrast between my name and the background than my headline and the background which I accomplished my selected the hue with greatest contrasted value from the background value for my name in order to allow it to stand out compared to my headline.
